The Guns of Brixton
Medium: Cast acrylic
The diverse richness of Brixton's community is a melting pot of music, spoken word poetry and culture. Brixton may have historic gun crime issues, but seeing through this thin veil are the real ‘bullets’ that make Brixton the best/worst place to live, thrive and survive...
What is happening now, is it gentrification or regeneration... could it be both?
The beauty the Windrush generation has brought to the city is immeasurable. This is represented by the stunning Dwarf Jamaica Heliconia Stricta firing out of the barrel with the buildings of Brixton flowering between.
For this year's 10x10 Article 25 charity auction Karl was asked to create an artwork based around the Tower of London.
The piece will be auctioned on Tuesday 29th November during an exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA HQ) Portland Place, London.
Other artists raising money for Article 25 include: Anthony Gormley, Rafael Viñoly, Eric Parry, Ed Cullinan, Wolfgang Buttress, Norman Ackroyd, Ian Ritchie and many others.
10×10 brings together 100 participants to create 100 pieces of work, giving 100 different perspectives within a snapshot of London. These works are then auctioned off at a special fundraising reception evening, which this year will be held at the RIBA’s headquarters in Portland Place, London.
